This article is about the film released in 1984. For other uses, see The Return of the Pink Panther (disambiguation). The Return of the Pink Panther is a 1984 American comedy film written and directed by Blake Edwards, starring Peter Sellers as Inspector Clouseau. The film was released by Columbia Pictures on March 23, 1984. It was released on DVD in North America by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment on January 18, 2005. The Return of the Pink Panther received generally positive reviews from critics and was a box office hit. In Venice, Italy, Princess Dala receives a gift from an admirer, a pink panther statuette. Her maidservant Amanda offers to take it up to her room for her and is murdered. Inspector Clouseau (Peter Sellers), who loves the princess and is known for his bumbling detective work, is on the case. Clouseau's "brilliant" theory derives from his observation that Amanda was killed while reaching into a box of chocolates; yet neither the box nor its contents had been disturbed—except for one missing chocolate (ostensibly eaten by the killer). Clouseau uncovers several clues, including a $100 bill left on the floor after Amanda was killed, but refuses to credit his theory until he can identify the killer's voice. He carries on with his investigation, offering to help the police by making "silly jokes", all of which go very wrong. Clouseau uncovers another clue due to an unintentional act on Amanda's part. When she was cleaning the room before her murder, she removed an orange-colored moustache adhesive from her mirror and stuck it to the wall before accidentally smearing it across the entire surface of a mirror in a different room in a manner that looks like a print out of a fingerprint. cfa1e77820
