The film is set in a futuristic world in which people are given tomorrow's news today, and where all events considered to have taken place "in the past" are live-streamed as old television programs. It stars George Clooney, Hugh Laurie, Britt Robertson, Raffey Cassidy and Thomas Robinson. The film was co-written and directed by Brad Bird with music composed by Michael Giacchino. Tomorrowland is a 2015 American science fiction mystery adventure film starring George Clooney that was co-written and directed by Brad Bird with music composed by Michael Giacchino. The film contains multi-dimensional time-travel elements, as a jaded scientist and a teenager search for a mysterious place called "Tomorrowland" described as an ideological collective of people from the past, present, and future who regard themselves as 'preservers of humankind's intelligence.' The film was released on May 22, 2015. In 1957 Frank Walker (George Clooney), a former boy genius now disillusioned has-been inventor on the run from the authorities revisits a theme park he created called 'Tomorrowland' that was shut down due to scandal. When he gets into an altercation with a security guard named Gus (Hugh Laurie), Frank uses his modified watch which allows him to travel through time to escape him. He travels to 1986 to break into the office of the head of the project, which is also an old acquaintance, and he becomes enamoured with a young woman named Athena (Britt Robertson). She believes that Tomorrowland was a first step toward an ideal society and he believes that it was a second best and blames her for the evolution of the world. Back in 1957 Frank travels to Tomorrowland and runs into Athena. He reveals that he has been trying to manipulate time for years and offers her a chance to join him. They travel through time together following their own agendas until they find themselves caught in a war between his forces and those of his nemesis Aldus (Raffey Cassidy). The mission to save Tomorrowland becomes a mission to save the world. Brad Bird (film director) was inspired by Japanese anime; he describes himself as a "huge fan" and cited Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli as inspirational. He thought the story was like: "What if we took time travel and made it into a Western?" Bird says that he has always loved time travel stories and that Athena's role in the film is the same as "a model, muse, muse for ideas" because you can extract so much from them when you apply them to different situations. He said: "If something happens in this movie, no matter which version of history it happens in, it happens in this movie. It's of the same cloth". Originally, Bird was going to write and direct a film adaptation of "The War of the Worlds" by H. G. Wells with Tim Burton as producer. However, they both dropped the project, and it was later on developed by Steven Spielberg as a big-budget Hollywood adaptation starring Tom Cruise as a supervillain version of H. G. Wells, but that was eventually cancelled after years in development hell. After that Bird had kept on pitching ideas to Warner Bros., which later bought them from him and gave him his first directing job for a live-action film since his 2003 film "", which was also for Walt Disney Pictures. In October 2011 Disney bought the rights from Warner Bros.. cfa1e77820
